THE FOUNDER
35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE ON THE WELLNESS & FITNESS INDUSTRY IT ALL STARTS HERE
Salles Calvo Mandia, our CEO & Founder, has close to 35 years of experience on the industry. He graduated in 1986 as a Physical Education Bachelor attending one of the most prestigious universities in Latin America - Universidade de Santo Amaro (UNISA). He has been a Member of the Brazilian Regional Physical Education Council since it"s openning in 2000.
He was a swimming coach between 1985 and 1991. During this period he was as a coach at one of most reputable clubs in Brazil, having helped to form dozens of swimmers which became regional and national champions. He also was one of the collaborators in the swimming learning of a Brazilian artistic synchronized female doubles which later went to two Summer Olimpic Games.
Mr. Mandia was also one of the best ice skating coaches in Brazil between 1986 and 1992. During this time he served as one of the coaches of the Brazilian Ice-skating Team. He was invited by the International Olimpic Committee to be part of the Winter Olympic Family in 1992 in Albertville, France.
In 1992, Mr. Mandia decided to venture and launched Sport Station Gym. He co-founded and was the CEO between 1992 and 2011. Their first big box gym, located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, had 12,500 sqf, very big for that times. Due to the success, their second big box gym, with 17,500 sqf, was launched in 1994.
Mr. Mandia would never be back to be only a coach. He became an entreprenuer in 1992 and has been one since than.

By 2007 Mr. Mandia was invited to be part of the Bio Ritmo / Smart Fit group. At that time, he became one of the first investors in this group.
He was a consultant which have helped to create brands, concepts, and operational manuals for the group during 2007 and 2009 for the Bio Ritmo brand.

By 2007 Mr. Mandia was invited to be part of the Bio Ritmo / Smart Fit group. At that time, he became one of the first investors in this group.
He was a consultant which have helped to create brands, concepts, and operational manuals for the group during 2007 and 2009 for the Bio Ritmo brand.
From 2009 to 2011 he acted as a consultant to help create the brand, the concepts, and the operational manuals of the new Smart Fit brand, having helped to launch the Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro first owned operations.
He was invited in 2011 to be the first franchisee of the Smart Fit brand, when he created LELYSE HOLDING in Brazil. Between 2011 and 2014 he built 3 studios, from 10,000sqf to 17,000sqt each one. In 2015 his studios combined reached the incredible number of 10,000 members.
Due to the knowledge and deep understanding of the Smart Fit business, Mr. Mandia was always a key contributor to the system, having helped literally dozens of other franchisees and the headquarters to improve practices, as his studios were beta tester for almost all the innovations on the system.
The Bio Ritmo / Smart Fit group became one of the most succesfull fitness groups in the world. It has now almost 1100 clubs all over Latin America, with over 2.6 million members. It's number 5 in number of clubs in the world, the biggest one outside the USA, and the 4th largest in number of owned clubs.
Mr. Mandia sold his interest in the group, but remains as one of the most important Smart Fit franchisees.

Bio Ritmo has 32 clubs all over Brazil. It's a full club high-end brand with around 100,000 members. Similar concept in the USA is Equinox.

Smart Fit has 1.100 studios in 14 countries in Latin America. A high-value low-cost brand with 2,5 million members. There is no similar concept in the USA.
